Transforming Anti-Racism Education through the BRISWA 2.0 Findings
The BRISWA 2.0 project is moving into an exciting phase as we analyze the results of our recent surveys. Our goal was simple but ambitious: to identify the most effective ways to teach anti-racism in schools and sports.
To do this, we didn’t just look at numbers; we used word frequency analysis to understand the language people use when they talk about discrimination. By mapping these trends, we have identified three clear pillars that will define our future teaching materials.
Key Findings:
Our analysis revealed a strong shift away from passive learning toward active participation.
The results broke down into three specific educational strategies:
Dialogue-Driven Learning: The data shows an overwhelming preference for open conversation. Participants highlighted that the most effective way to foster empathy and critical thinking is through safe, inclusive dialogue where ideas can be exchanged and challenged.
Participatory Engagement: Interactive methods, such as role-playing and digital simulations, were identified as essential. These techniques allow learners to experience the dynamics of systemic racism firsthand, making the lessons far more impactful than traditional lectures.
Structural Context: While active methods are the priority, theoretical frameworks remain the vital anchor. These provide the historical and legal context necessary to understand racism as a system of power rather than just an individual mistake.
These preliminary findings are more than just data; they are the direct blueprint we are using to build the BRISWA 2.0 Interactive Learning Environment and our practical training handbooks. By integrating the clear preference for dialogue and interactivity into our digital tools, we are ensuring that the resources we provide to coaches and teachers are not static manuals, but dynamic platforms for real-world intervention. Our commitment is to transform these survey insights into a sustainable toolkit that moves beyond mere awareness, providing the educational and sporting community with the exact participatory methods needed to dismantle systemic racism and foster a culture of active, daily inclusion.
